v salône vonnom milencov ruch.

Teraz šat čierny, kto zná, čo smúti?

V hlbokim oku - lomený lúč,

pobledlá prelesť k sústrasti núti...

„pomiluj, Pane, odpúšťať uč!“

Pokľakla, na rtoch kajúcnosť nemá,

po líci bielom sĺz kanie prúd...

rouge on her cheeks, and voice son wanton,

in the scented salon her lovers thronging.

Now dressed in black, for who knows what grieving?

The light is duller in her deep eye...

"O lord, have mercy, and teach forgiving!"

Her pale charm forces our sympathy.

She knelt, but her lips have no contrition,

down her white cheek falls a flood of tears...
